I just sighted the Texas version of a male Lesser Goldfinch at our backyard thistle feeder.  It is 
black-backed, rather than the usual green-backed we see here.  I checked in Sibley page 535.  We 
are near the southwest edge of the Glenview district in Oakland near Park Blvd below Beaumont.
